Congressman Keith Self Honors Fallen Greenville Police Officer Cooper Dawson

February 5, 2025

Today, Congressman Keith Self introduced a bill to rename the United States Postal Service facility at 2600 Wesley Street in Greenville, Texas, to the “Cooper Dawson Post Office Building” in honor of fallen Greenville Police Department Officer Cooper Dawson.

Officer Dawson was killed in the line of duty on November 25, 2024, during a traffic stop of a driver with multiple felony warrants, which escalated into a foot chase. During the pursuit, Officer Dawson was ambushed and shot multiple times by the subject. Despite his injuries, Officer Dawson valiantly returned fire, incapacitating the assailant.

“Officer Dawson made the ultimate sacrifice for our community,” said Congressman Keith Self. “It is a debt that can never be repaid, and we will forever carry his memory in our hearts. It is a great honor to introduce this bill to commemorate Officer Dawson’s legacy and his remarkable, unwavering bravery in the face of danger.”
