Congressman Keith Self Condemns Biden Administration Executive Order to Mandate Equity in Government

(March 10, 2023 – WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, Congressman Keith Self (TX-03) and Congressman Wesley Hunt (TX-38) sent a letter to the President Biden expressing concern about a recent Executive Order titled, Further Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government. This Executive Order mandates “Agency Equity Teams” in every federal department and cabinet-level agency in our government to ensure “equitable outcomes for the American people.”

The letter said in part, “Your new Executive Order goes much further than your 2021 Executive Order 13985. Now, you seek to use the federal government as an instrument to subvert the principles that undergird our Democratic Republic and to guarantee equality of outcome rather than equality of opportunity. By corroding the precepts that have enabled our nation to make incredible progress in just a few generations, we fear your Executive Order will take our nation backwards, not forwards.”

U.S. history contains countless examples of extraordinary acts, achievements, and discoveries by Americans. They are not honored and celebrated simply for their membership in a racial group, but for their character and contributions to this great nation. Equal opportunity does not translate to guaranteed outcomes under the law. This Executive Order is more reminiscent of something from the Communist Manifesto than the U.S. Constitution. Congressman Self demands the Biden Administration rescind this Executive Order immediately.
