Congressman Keith Self (TX-03) introduced a joint resolution to repeal the 17th Amendment and restore the Founders’ original vision for the United States Senate by returning the selection of U.S. Senators to state legislatures.

Ratified in 1913, the 17th Amendment shifted the election of senators from state legislatures to direct popular vote. For more than 124 years prior, senators were chosen by elected state representatives, creating a direct chain of accountability between the Senate and the sovereign states they were meant to represent.

Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 6916, the Federal Program Integrity and Fraud Prevention Act, legislation introduced by Congressman Keith Self (TX-03) and Congresswoman Emily Randall (WA-06) to stop individuals convicted of federal fraud and theft crimes tied to federal programs from continuing to access taxpayer-funded contracts, grants, loans, and other federal assistance.

Congressman Keith Self (TX-03), along with Congressman Kevin Mullin (CA-15), introduced the Veterans Hearing Aid Improvement Act which would improve access to over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids for eligible veterans through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This bill is a companion to S. 3739, introduced by Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Adam Schiff (D-CA).

The House Foreign Affairs Committee passed Representative Keith Self’s bill H.R. 8668, titled the “State Department Recurring Reports Repeal and Sunset Act of 2026.” This bill eliminates or sunsets 52 outdated and duplicative reporting requirements and reduces the required frequency of a further 12.


May 14, 2026

Congressman Keith Self (TX-03) introduced the House companion to Senator Tom Cotton’s legislation to ban illegal aliens in the United States from accessing the American banking system. The bill, titled the Know Your American Customer Act, requires insured banks and credit unions to verify the citizenship or lawful presence of individuals seeking to open or maintain accounts.
