Congressman Keith Self Pulls Back the Curtain on Biden’s Lawless Department of Veterans Affairs

July 12, 2024

During a Veterans Affairs Subcommittee Hearing this week, a senior-ranking Department of Veterans Affairs official testified his intent to defy the law. In written testimony provided to the Subcommittee, the VA stated it would not comply with the Veterans 2nd Amendment Restoration Act should it become law.

When Congressman Self confronted Kevin Friel, the Deputy Director of Pension and Fiduciary Services, Friel affirmed the VA’s defiance under oath during the hearing.

Despite Congressman Self, Congressman Rosendale, and Congressman Luttrell giving him several chances to correct his statement, Friel confirmed that the VA would not comply with the law if passed by Congress and cited the Brady Act as previously enacted legislation. The Biden Administration’s wild interpretation of statute has led to the idea that the administrative state can bypass Congress authority.

Congressman Self closed his questioning stating, “We have often talked about this lawless administration on the border, we’re now having to go to the second level of subpoena on the Attorney General of this nation, and now you sit here and tell us that you’re not going to comply with the law? This is more than concerning.”
