Congressman Keith Self Sends Letter to Secretary Blinken Urging Action on Qatar Harboring Hamas Terrorists
Congressman Keith Self sent a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken regarding Qatar’s provision of safe harbor to Hamas terrorists.
Qatar is a Major Non-NATO Ally of the United States, yet it continues to permanently host senior Hamas leadership. After the October 7 terror attack against Israel that claimed the lives of approximately 1,200 innocent people, including over 30 Americans, this arrangement must end. Hamas’ ability to operate freely within Qatar—raising funds, liaising with Iranian regime officials, broadcasting propaganda, and planning its next terror attack—directly harms American interests. The Congressman’s letter asks the State Department to determine if Qatar meets the statutory definition of a “terrorist sanctuary.”
“Hamas’ crimes were unconscionable. We cannot forget the mass murder, rape, burning, and kidnapping of innocents on 10/7,” said Congressman Self. “Hamas terrorists must be denied refuge. I urge Secretary Blinken to use all the tools at his disposal to pressure our ally to give up Hamas.”
On October 13th, Secretary Blinken said, “There can be no more business as usual with Hamas.” Recent reporting indicates that Israel has already begun plans to hunt down senior Hamas leadership around the world. This moment calls for strategic and moral clarity: the U.S. must no longer tolerate Qatar’s hosting of Hamas.
