Congressman Keith Self’s Legislation to Block Biden’s Iran Sanction’s Relief Passes the House

April 17, 2024

Tonight, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 4691, the Iran Sanctions Relief Review Act (ISRRA) of 2023. This bill strengthens Congress’ oversight powers over any action by President Biden’s administration to relieve sanctions on Iran. It passed with a vote of 278–141.

ISRRA establishes a procedure for Congress to review any action by the President to terminate, waive, or modify sanctions on Iran. Under the bill, the President must report to Congress on any planned sanctions relief and the reasons for the change in policy. Congress would then have oversight of the administration’s actions.

“Iran is attacking our allies, and their proxies are attacking American soldiers,” said Congressman Keith Self. “Congress must stop the Biden Administration's disastrous foreign policy that is empowering our foreign adversaries.”
