Senator Kennedy and Congressman Keith Self Introduce Bill to Ensure Americans Have Access to Affordable Healthcare
Congressman Keith Self co-led The Patient’s Choice Act of 2024 with Senator Kennedy, overturning the Biden Administration’s proposed rule that dramatically reduces the time frame individuals have access to shortterm, limited-duration health plans.
“These insurance plans are designed to provide Americans with temporary, limited, and affordable health coverage while they search for more permanent solutions,” said Congressman Keith Self. “This bill stops the Department of Health & Human Services, Labor, and Treasury from imposing burdensome regulations on Americans.”
For almost a decade, citizens have used these Trump-Era policies to access affordable healthcare without having to go through Obamacare. This proposed rule would reduce the limited short-term plans from twelve months to four months. This will cause more distress to Americans who rely on short-term plans as a cost-effective alternative vs. the more expensive Obamacare exchange-compliant plans.
Senator Kennedy remarked, “President Biden’s rule would limit Americans’ freedom to get affordable, short-term health insurance plans that fit their needs. The Patients Choice Act would make sure bureaucrats can’t force Louisianians to pay more for insurance through Obamacare.”
The Foundation for Government Accountability stated that the short-term plan premiums are 59% less expensive than typical Obamacare plans. “These insurance plans are a great way to provide Americans with temporary, limited, and affordable health coverage while they search for more permanent comprehensive plans,” Congressman Self said.
“Obamacare is an abject failure. The Biden administration’s desire to force Americans to buy into this socialist scheme is just another attempt to stick taxpayers with the bill.”
